S*N*A - Why is it such a magical girl name?

I was browsing through today's newspaper, when I found this news. I don't know why I have stopped getting surprised. Every female newsmaker in recent times in India have this magical name starting with S, ending in A with a N in between. Oh, you forgot Sania Mirza in tennis, Saina Nehwal in squash and ya, the Indian Kingmaker Sonia Gandhi. Now it is Sonia Malhotra.

Arent all these names so strikingly similar to each other. Yes, there are indeed other female newsmakers too, but I simply choose to not name them here to not spoil the S*N*A phenomenon.

Creative Spamming by Blog community on MyBlogLog

Yesterday I received a message from the owner of Blogmemes.be. Don't ask me who the owner is or even what that website is about, or even what language it is written in. The message was pretty interesting. The author wanted me to one of the co-authors of the blog community on MyBlogLog.

For a minute I wondered, why should I be the co-author. Was my blog that impressive enough for the website owner to declare me a co-author in his MBL community. But then, it is after all in the MyBlogLog community. There is no binding. Then, the evil side of my brain warned that it could be a prank. What if the owner was on a rampage adding everyone he stumbled upon at MBL as his co-author. Not likely, but then possible.

At the end of the message, there was a link for me to click in order to accept the invitation. I clicked on it, but landed up merely on the community page. I was still not the co-author. Probably was this because I was still not a member of the community? I looked at the numbers. There were around 400 members of the community. I thought, maybe I should give one another chance. I joined the community, and then went back to the message and clicked the link again. Uh..No difference in where I landed now.

I then slowly scrolled down the messages written by the other community members. There were several messages. Just quoting one of them:

Looks like I'm not the only one with a mysterious invite in my inbox. Hmm. Interesting spammy way to get eyeballs to your site, though just adding someone to your contact list would have been easier & less intrusive to us all.

Now, I check back after a day. There are over 620 members. Wow! One of the hottest in-things on MyBlogLog heh!??

Let me disclose

After yesterday's post about PayPerPost's new feature that lets you get paid whenever you click on the link at the bottom of my post, and then follow it up by reviewing my post, there was a couple of mails I had received today from people who asked me about how much have I actually been paid to blog by PayPerPost. Here is a quote from what one friend had written:

"Hey Anand; Looking at what you had written in your blog today, I am actually very eager to start reviewing your website. But could you tell me if it is a scam or something, or have you already been paid?..."

And one another friend had actually reviewed my site already. After asking me how much I have earned, he alse wrote in:

"..Your post was very informative. I have already reviewed your post. Do let me know how much I shall get paid"

To answer both your questions, I have up to date earned $639. This is what I have already received in my Paypal account. There is another $148 that is waiting to be received in the course of the next month, since you get paid only 30 days after the post is made. So, in one phrase, "PPP IS NOT SCAM!". And to answer the second question, you need to first click and then register with PayPerPost before writing a review. Thanks for your post anyway!

Reef Sandals?

I had for long had not known that these kind of sandals are called reef sandals. In my part of the world, we call it Hawaiian. Wonder where Hawaii came in here, but that is how it is known. Isn't this one nationwide worn and common ones. I just browsed across a site for reef sandals. I really liked the one at the bottom of the page. Looks real cool, ain't it?

Please Read..Please Read..Please Read

I came across this article, and instantly felt painful at this. Wikipedia is again out there pleading for money to sustain the Wiki foundation's ventures. It really feels bad when there is this guy who has made life easier to so many of us without expecting a thing in return, and we are not even ready to help them keep with their activities.

If you have a credit card, or atleast a PayPal account with something on, please do contribute atleast one dollar to the Wiki foundation. They should not be there begging for our money. They deserve it all...To make your contribution click here

Get Paid to review my Post!

If you had noticed, I have recently made a new addition to my blog template. Scroll down to the bottom of this post, and alongside the comments and labels, there is one new link. Yes, that one is exciting, both to you as well as to me. Because, you can now review any post that I make on my blog, and in return you get paid for doing that. Not that I have grown rich enough to pay everyone who review my product, this is in fact sponsored by PayPerPost. It is a win all situation. I get a link to my blog, you get paid for reviewing my blog, and PayPerPost is getting new bloggers for their awesome service.

How this Works

Ok, let me throw some light on how this stuff works. And why you should get paid for reviewing my blog. To know that, you first have to know about what PayPerPost does. They are a service that allows bloggers make money through blogging about products, reviewing websites etc. I earn too, as I have already told it many times here. Now, this 'get paid to review my post' is yet another aspect of their business ideas. When you click on that link at the bottom of my post, you get to sign up for PayPerPost. Once you do that, you can review my blog, and submit it to earn $7.5

But, that's not just that. You can from thereon carry out with other 'opportunities' that are made to advertise on blogs and available on PayPerPost, so that you can keep earning and earning! What's you waiting for dude!!

Sex with Google!??

Well, today I was going through this article in Techcrunch comparing the email services of Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo. The article was good, but better was the hundred odd comments that the visitors had made. If you ask me, I love Gmail. I infact love every product that Google makes. It is just the innocent brand power that the company holds, but nothing of that to take away the awesome products they come up with. There was this one another guy who also held the very same view. But here is the comment that he had made:

I may be a little biased, since I openly want to have sex with Google, its products and possibly its staff, BUT:

(1) It’s worth noting, I think, that Gmail offers what is easily the best mobile email product I’ve ever used.

(2) I’m shocked — shocked, I tells you — that people are calling Gmail’s spam filtering anything less than excellent. Maybe two to three times a month, something improperly slips through — and even better, Gmail very nearly never blocks legitimate email as spam (the only exception being the occasional newsletter). In my experience, Hotmail’s success rate on both sides of spam filtering remains laughable. Cryable, even.

(3) Your B+/B records for Hotmail strike me as a little generous — especially the B+ for search.

I’ve never used Yahoo, so I can’t comment there — but to me, comparing Gmail to Hotmail is like comparing apples and orange-painted rocks. Covered in poison.

Awesome!!! Truly Awesome!!!

You know I am a member of PayPerPost. Having blogged for them for the past few months, I had made quite a lot, something like $800. All that lies in my PayPal account.

I was just browsing two days back blindly and came across this website called DollarsForLife. It is like a PayPal game. You pay an amount to join and when you do this, your id is shown to subsequent visitors. If they subscribe too, then you get paid. In fact they also pay a random member an amount each time a member joins. It was just $19. I signed up simply because with $800 in my Paypal account, $19 is a nothing amount.

There was no immediate payback to me, and I completely had forgotten about it. But right from yesterday, I have been paid something like $60. That's not a huge amount too, but I guess if I keep doing, I will keep getting a return over whatever I put. Wow..I am enjoying this Paypal game!!

I am sure this is not going to make me a millionnaire..But getting paid 60 bucks for every twenty you put is cool too!

Why I adore him

Incidentally came across this interview of R Subramanian, one of the emerging entrepreneurs in the Indian retail scene. He is an IIT, IIM-A passout, the most respectable couple of degrees one can manage in India, and he claims that when the rest of his batchmates were soon sailing off to US simply because this degree helped them make huge bucks there, he stayed back simply because he wanted to remain in India and make it big here.

I tell you, no matter which part of the world you are, that it was a bold step. Anybody can make it big in places like USA and Singapore. But it takes real guts to make it big in India, atleast till a decade and a half back. And it was not easy to be an entrepreneur back then. His interview is real good. Read it when you can.

For those who still wonder who this person is, he is managing Subhiksha, south Indian discount retail store, which has recently set foot out to the Northern states of India too...

Man with the longest tongue in the world undergoes surgery

A man with tongue as long as 13.5 cm long and 12 cm wide was relieved of this nuisance record after a rare surgery. Now, man! just think 12 cm wide...What a pain it is to hold such a huge stuff all the while inside your mouth..

I wonder why he did not undergo this earlier, or why was this not highlighted all the while. Even if he did not have the money to undergo the surgery, there are enough samaritans to help him take the shit out of his mouth...

Here is the link.

Cool ecards

You should probably check this one out. This is a website exclusively for free funny eCards. Many of them are really quite funny and cute. Subscribers normally pay a nominal 14 odd dollars for a year's unlimited subscription. But you can get a free 30 day free membership. Even I tried all the features using that only.

You choose the ecard, personalize them, and set the exact date when it should reach your recipient. So, you can save the last-minute scramble to send the card. Now, if you were wondering what I meant by cute, just check this one image I scrapped from there..

Now, I bet.

May the Sachin bashers please stand up

Sachin hit yet another century yesterday to help India win an ODI series. This was his 41st century. Sachin is here merely to make the one whoever is going to break his record a run for his money. That is because, he has been on the top century maker list for a long long time now, and this one is only going to add to the chaser's agony.

More agony to all those retards who keep bashing him, not only when he is out for a few runs, but even when he scores a half-century, courtest, just the match previous to this one. Their complaint was he did not score enough boundries. Sachin's bat is his middle finger to these retards.

Keep going Sachin!

SEO and word length

I used to manage a blog on SEO sometime back. So, it still interests me whenever I find something related to that subject still. Aaron Wall, in his SEO book has advised on the optimal word length for your web page content. In fact, I have personally seen this question asked many times at Webmaster Forums. This is because webmasters feel, the shorter the pages can be made, it is easier to increase internal-linking. But they are not sure if that will help with indexing of the pages.

And I think, Aaron Wall is indeed right in his article that there is nothing fixed on this. You write as naturally as it can get. A combination of short and long articles is great for your web page ranking.

Persoanally though, I write short more for the ease of convenience rather than for SEO!That explains why I am still not an Aaron myself ;)

Long time. No see :((

Today, there was a mail from a reader from US. He has asked why I haven't blogged as much as I used to. I was, to tell the truth, stumped. I never really thought that there were readers who were reading my blog regularly for updates. I do know what traffic comes in here, but never thought some of them were repeat visitors.

That was so good to see. Thing is, I am so much caught up these days with assignments. Also, I have been trying to associate myself with a few people since I really need to start getting a few contacts in the website industry if I ever want to make a start here. I don't want to go into the rugged corporate life. I want to be different :(
