"Google News - Recommended" algorithm wanted

I am looking for the algorithm that Google uses to deliver the "Recommended" section of Google News. I simply fail to believe that it is based on my past Google News searches. Most often than not, I do not even seem to know the context of the news articles posted. This one below, for instance. What made Google feel that I might be interested to know that James Brown's widow may not be married to him. For the matter, I do not even know who James Brown is. I swear...
