Does Honey get Spoilt?

There are many times when you return home after a long time and find that some of the packets of food remain unused. Do you throw them away because they are old or would prefer to use them if they still tasted good. Well, most of us would not want to throw something away just because they are old. Well, how about honey?

Honey in its purest form does not spoil even if kept for eternity. As a matter of fact, honey that had been kept in sealed containers by ancient pharoahs were found to be fresh and very much usable when discovered. Sealed containers are okay. But normally, we get honey in packets or in bottles. And this myth that honey never gets spoilt may not always be applicable.

Honey, for it to remain unspoilt should not be adulterated. Even a little bit of water might make honey lose its usual characteristics. It is better to make sure it is not spoilt. Sometimes, long unused honey can be found to contain gluttoned particles. These are hardening of honey in small quantities. This can be one way to make sure that the honey is adulterated, or is not entirely safe to use.

But, still consuming this kind of honey is not entirely fatal. Not many diseases or illness is known to be caused by consuming old honey. Also, honey sold in the market is tried and tested and normally adulterated with materials that aid in keeping it fresh in taste. Check for any info on 'Best Use before' date on the side of the packets to know if you need to consume them.

All said and done, make sure next time you buy honey, you get one in sealed containers. Those are the closest to unspoilt honey. So, the next time, you tell your girlfriend "You are so sweet as honey", not only do you mean she is sweet, but also sweet provided she is sealed and untouched!
